"The Pastoral Office"
Do my beliefs and practices come from the Word, or have I read them into it?
LIE OF THE WEEK
“Breaking your church membership vows exposes you to God’s wrath!”
The “Arrival”
“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” (Philippians 3:12, 13)
Pride works to make us think that we have somehow “arrived” scripturally and spiritually. It embraces a self-confidence that one’s life and knowledge of the truth has already been perfected; that we have attained some sort of level of superiority.
They assume, “What further need have we to study.” The fact is that none of us presently possess “all Truth” infallibly. We are all on a journey. None of us has a corner on Truth.
“…We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. And if any man think that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.” (I Corinthians 8:1-3)
EACH AND EVERY DAY: Seek the Truth. Study the Scriptures. Adjust your understanding.
Keep an open mind, and an open Bible.
